Dear Alumni and Friends,
As the year draws to a close and we plan our holiday celebrations, I am reminded of how vital family support is to us all.
As University of Louisville president, I rely on the members of the UofL family -- our outstanding students, faculty and staff -- to make our university the best it can be in academics, research, sports and community service.
For example, in 2006:
- We declared victory on meeting the Challenge for Excellence, our 10-year strategic plan. Among our goals were attracting high-caliber students, creating a number of new endowed chairs, increasing NIH funding and having at least 20 nationally recognized programs.
- The world's first effective cervical cancer vaccine, developed by two researchers now working at UofL's Brown Cancer Center, was approved for sale by the Food and Drug Administration.
- Our College of Arts and Sciences, which graduates 40 percent of all UofL students, kicked off a series of events to launch its Centennial Celebration.
- And as I’m sure you all know, our football team earned the Big East championship and now is set to take on Wake Forest in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 2. Go Cards!
But we don't -- and we can’t -- accomplish such feats alone. You, too, are a vital member of the UofL family and key to our success, serving as our representative in your community. We appreciate all that you have done for us to date and hope that we can continue to count on you to help us advance the qualify of life for our community.
