Millions of Americans are tuning in to their favorite music and sounds with portable MP3 players.
This technological marvel is compact and can store a ton of tunes. But users should be careful
how long they use them and how loud they turn up the volume.
We need to respond as a nation to “powerful forces reshaping our planet,” U.S.
Senator Ted Kennedy (D-Mass) told an audience of about 300 at the University
of Louisville Monday. Kennedy spoke as a guest of the McConnell Center, a bipartisan
center at U of L that prepares students for effective leadership.
Kennedy has served seven full Senate terms and is the second most senior senator.
The University of Louisville’s Division of International Pediatrics is
getting a $4 million boost from two private gifts being matched with state
money. Two $1 million donations, one from The Humana Foundation and one from
David and Betty Jones of Louisville, will attract equal funding from Kentucky’s
Bucks for Brains program, university officials announced.
More than 100 U of L pediatricians and pediatric nurses have traveled
overseas to improve health care for children in Poland, Romania, Moldova
and Latvia.
An original work of art by New York City artist Bill Lopa and autographed
by 17 world-famous jockeys will be auctioned at the Mint Jubilee Gala on Friday,
May 5. Guests may submit bids at the event. Those unable to attend may submit
bids on eBay starting Saturday, April 29 (search eBay with the phrase
“Mint Jubilee”). All proceeds will benefit the James Graham Brown Cancer

Prints to Benefit Scholarships and Cancer Center
Ray Harm, Kentucky’s most noted bird artist since John Audubon, is offering
a limited edition of 500 Cardinal prints for $125 each plus tax. Harm will
sign the prints at the Seelbach Hotel on May 12, 10:30 a.m.-noon, and
at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center, on May 13, 10:30 a.m.-noon.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the James Graham Brown Cancer Center

U of L’s fourth annual Gifted Student Summer Program will be held June 9-30. Students in grades
8-12 can take programs in pre-calculus, calculus, computer science, biology, chemistry, English,
engineering and business. A limited number of need-based partial scholarships and housing is
