Biomedical III Building to Boost Cancer Research
U of L is adding
another 150,000 square feet of state-of-the-art laboratory space
to house about 50 researchers on its Health Sciences Campus. The
building is part of a two-phase plan to expand research facilities
at U of L’s Health Sciences Center in downtown
Louisville, and is expected to cost $65 million. Of the total,
more than $10 million is coming from federal funds secured by Sen.
Mitch McConnell; the university is contributing another $16 million.

Students Get Hands-On Experience with Energy Audits
The high cost of energy has many people scrambling
to find ways to save on wattage and lower their bills. Some U
of L students recently teamed with Louisville area high school
students and professional engineers to audit the energy efficiency
in buildings operated by the Jefferson County Public Schools,
U of L and Louisville Metro government. The audits, sponsored
by the Kentucky Pollution Prevention Center at U of L, are part
of a larger environmentally friendly initiative known as the
Partnership for a Green City.

It's Time to 'Play Baseball!' in New Baseball Stadium
Jim Patterson Stadium, U of L's new state-of-the-art baseball
facility, will be dedicated April 15 at 6 p.m. The ceremony
will be at the stadium at Third Street and Central Avenue behind
Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. The 2,500-seat stadium is part
of a $20 million athletic complex. The new facility's roof
supports contain bricks from the old Parkway Field, the historic
former home of Cardinal baseball.

Ground to be Broken for Community Park Project
The April 21 groundbreaking for the Community park project signals
a major U of L initiative to improve greek life and to provide
more on-campus housing for students in general. The ceremony
will take place at 3:30 p.m. in a tent near Louisville Hall on
Fourth Street. The centerpiece of the project will be an as-yet
unnamed 350-student residence hall on Fourth Street on the west
side of Belknap Campus.
Renovations to nearby sorority and fraternity houses are part
of the project. U of L is negotiating long-term 35-year leases
with Greek organizations to occupy the houses on the condition
that sprinklers are added and other safety and aesthetic improvements
are made.
For more information, call the Office of the Vice President for
Student Affairs at 502-852-1334 or visit the
project web site.
U

according to the Council on Postsecondary Education. The plan
sets goals for the state's public universities for African American
student enrollment, retention and graduation. It also sets goals
for employment of African Americans in managerial, faculty and
