The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education has granted approval for the U of L School of Nursing’s plan to establish a Ph.D. in nursing. $1 Million Gift to Fund Chairs in Pan-African, Women's and Gender Studies
Society continues to grapple with issues of race, class and sexuality. The intellectual challenges posed by such complex issues are part of U of L’s mission. A new chair based jointly in Pan-African Studies and in women’s and gender studies has been established to address these matters, funded by a $1 million gift from local benefactor and social activist Carla Wallace. The Audre Lorde Endowed Chair in Race, Class, Gender and Sexuality, named in honor of the late activist, scholar and writer, will “contribute to a dialogue about looking at the way these issues intersect and about how solutions will come about with people joining across lines of difference,” says Wallace. The state will match the gift, which will be used to establish a visiting scholar’s chair in Pan-African Studies.
