UofL
is bringing the largest exhibition of works by renowned sculptor Frederick Hart
to Louisville this fall. “Frederick Hart: Giving Form to Spirit” is
a free, public exhibition of up to 100 acrylic and bronze works by Hart. Hart
may be best known for his Three Soldiers statue at the Vietnam Memorial. Many
UofL professors will incorporate discussions of Hart in their curriculum.
UofL made a clean sweep of Fulbright honors for 2007-08. The seven students who cleared the U.S. national committee in January will all be researching and teaching abroad. "This is most unusual, since typically countries receive one-third to one-half as many recommended candidates from the U.S. national screening committee as they have placements available for in that year," said Pat Condon of the Honors Program.
Did you know that tuition and state support combined make up just 44 percent
of UofL's budget? That's why donations from our alumni and friends are so important.
You decide what area to support. Donations help keep the cost of
tuition in check and pay for such priorities as scholarships, library materials,
lab upgrades and research. Give online

the alarming results prompted them to take action. Data showed that
by the third grade, children at Atkinson Elementary were significantly overweight
and out of shape. In response,
the nursing students held a fitness fair and asked the Kentucky General Assembly
to mandate physical education in all Kentucky schools.
Tim
Dowling, a mechanical engineering professor, studies the atmospheres of other
planets. So why on Earth was he chasing a thunderstorm around southern Indiana
with a crew from the History Channel a few weeks ago? "I
talked about how weather on other planets can help us understand the weather
here, and vice versa," he said. Dowling appears in two episodes of "The
Universe," 13-part
TV series on the History Channel.

while working as a traipsin’ court reporter in the early part of the 20th

Doing good for others makes us feel good. That’s the conclusion of a recent study led by Michael Steger, assistant professor of educational and counseling psychology. Steger launched the study to find out what makes people happier: seeking pleasure or taking the harder road of trying to become a better person. The conclusion? People who spent more time in meaningful activities were happier and felt more life purpose than those who mainly sought pleasure.
