Accountability
More than $20 million in federal dollars has been earmarked for University of Louisville medical research facilities, sustainable energy programs, wound-healing research, a computer forensics lab and other programs.
The funding will aid UofL in improving cardiovascular studies, nuclear magnetic resonance facilities, child abuse assessments and more.
The funds, resulting from recently passed federal legislation, were secured by Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky, ($14.9 million) and Rep. John Yarmuth, D-3rd District ($2 million). Jointly, they secured an additional $3.5 million for UofL.
The support will help UofL meet its "ambitious agenda … to help us meet our goals for improving the lives of all Kentuckians," says UofL President James Ramsey

UofL professors in the College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) conduct research worldwide--from glaciers to French palaces, from Indian temples to art collection sites. A&S's "Meet the Professors" series presents historians, authors and scientists who share their adventures in learning with the public on the first Thursday of selected months. The lectures begin at noon in the University Club. Reservations are required.

Issues that Matter
Nationally renowned legal experts will be at UofL Jan. 18 to discuss how last summer's U.S. Supreme Court rulings striking down the use of race as the sole factor to allocate students to different schools could impact voluntary school integration policies. The UofL Law Review Symposium, hosted by the Brandeis School of Law, will consider the consequences of the court's decision with particular focus on Meredith v. Jefferson County Board of Education, which originated in Louisville.
