UofL Holiday Weekend in Nashville Nov. 29-30

Basketball

The "Holiday Cards" are out early this year. On the Sunday after Thanksgiving, Rick Pitino's Cardinals will play Western Kentucky at Nashville's Sommet Center at 2 p.m.; purchase tickets at 502-852-5151. Before then, join the UofL Alumni Association for a 2 p.m. Saturday matinee of the Radio City Rockettes Christmas Show; tickets are $53. Also on Saturday, President James Ramsey will host a 7-9 p.m. holiday reception at the Hard Rock Café Nashville for alumni and friends.

 
 
 
 

UofL center to help Kentucky schools reduce energy use

Kentucky school districts spent $160 million on energy last year, but by doing simple things, such as changing to energy-efficient light bulbs, they could trim several million off that bill. UofL’s Kentucky Pollution Prevention Center will work with all the state’s school districts through the Kentucky Energy Efficiency Program for Schools (KEEPS).

 
 
 
 

UofL gets 11.6 million dollars for diabetes, obesity research

UofL's Institute of Molecular Cardiology will receive $11.6 million from the National Institutes of Health to establish a center of excellence in diabetes and obesity research. The five-year grant is designed to give talented young scientists an opportunity to produce initial data in new fields of study. "This is UofL's third multi-million dollar COBRE grant since July 1 in a highly competitive NIH funding environment," said President James Ramsey.

 
 
 
 

College of Business expands study-abroad offerings to China

UofL business students now will have the opportunity to study abroad in China. Charlie Moyer, College of Business dean, recently signed exchange agreements with China’s Nankai University Business School and the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade. The College of Business also has exchange agreements with schools in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Russia, Czech Republic, Taiwan and Hungary, and pending relationships with schools in New Zealand and Poland.

 
 
 
 

People turn out, take action on Campus Sustainability Day

Students, faculty and staff turned out Oct. 22 for UofL’s first Campus Sustainability Day Fair. More than just showing up, however, they brought nearly 1,500 floppy disks for recycling and said they want to be involved in the university’s efforts to operate in a more environmentally sustainable way. UofL is a member in the Partnership for a Green City with Louisville Metro government and Jefferson County Public Schools.

 
 
 
 

UofL doctors dedicate new outpatient center

With the opening of the UofL Health Care Outpatient Center in October, patients can now see UofL doctors, dentists and nurse practitioners under one roof. The 169,000 square foot facility on the corner of Preston and Chestnut streets includes the latest diagnostic imaging equipment, an outpatient surgical center, an outpatient rehabilitation center, a dialysis center, pharmacy and laboratory--allowing patients to get tests, prescriptions and other services at one location.

 
 
 
 

New digital collections provide online access to UofL’s history

Do you remember the Cardinal Inn on Shipp Street? UofL Libraries has launched two new digital collections highlighting the university’s history through images. University of Louisville Images focuses on the campus's past and present buildings. The Kornhauser Health Sciences Library History Collections contains photos of students, buildings, classrooms and laboratories.

Women's basketball ranked 10th in nation

For the first time in UofL history, the women's basketball team has been ranked 10th in the nation according to an Associated Press poll. The team's next game is an exhibition doubleheader with the men's team against Northern Kentucky University Nov. 8. Find out more and locate game times.

 
 
 
 

Men's basketball is 3rd in nation

The Cardinal men's basketball team will open the season with a lofty ranking, clocking in at third in both the AP and ESPN/USA Today polls.
