Alumni and supporters gave a tremendous $86.5 million to UofL during fiscal year 2008 (July 1, 2007-June 30, 2008)--making this the best fund-raising year on record, despite the shaky economy. "In these financially tough times, our alumni and friends really came through for us," said President James Ramsey. Almost 15 percent of all alumni made a gift to UofL. This year's goal is to increase participation rates to 20 percent. |

Cardinals win back UofL vs. UK Blood Donor Challenge title |
A big thank you goes out to all alumni and supporters who donated blood during the UofL vs. UK Blood Donor Challenge in August. UofL won back the title and received a trophy during the UofL vs. UK football game Aug. 31. Even better--more than 10,300 pints of life-saving blood were donated to the American Red Cross and the Kentucky Blood Centers through the Challenge. Thank you, all! |

When a family dog's hind legs are paralyzed from injuries, nerve problems or disease, its owners face a tough decision: to take care of a pet which can no longer walk, or have the animal euthanized. UofL bioengineer Gina Bertocci was deeply troubled by the problem, so she and mechanical engineering graduate student Eddie Fowler designed and developed an adjustable wheelchair for paraplegic dogs that anyone can build with items commonly found at a hardware store. |
