Lorenzo Trujillo ’03

Dr. Lorenzo Trujillo, a native of Lakewood, Colorado, is a versatile trumpet performer and educator whose career spans classical, jazz, commercial, military, salsa and Broadway performance. He earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of Louisville, a Master of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Beginning violin studies at age four before transitioning to trumpet in high school, Lorenzo has performed in more than 630 cities throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Brazil. His career has included touring as Lead Trumpet with Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, First Trumpet with The Dallas Brass and performances with the U.S. Air Force Airmen of Note and the U.S. Army Blues. He has appeared alongside internationally acclaimed artists including Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, Sheila E., Tony Vega, Charlie Aponte, Roberto Blades, Josimar y Su Yambú, Salserín and many more. He has been a featured soloist 52 times in performances and recordings with The United States Army Band "Pershing's Own."

As an educator, Lorenzo has taught at the university level, presented masterclasses throughout the United States and premiered numerous works for trumpet. Following fourteen years with The United States Army Band "Pershing's Own" in Washington, D.C., where he served as Assistant Principal and Lead/Commercial Trumpet, he now maintains an active performance career in New York City.
